Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has praised security agencies and other individuals involved in the successful rescue of the abducted Oyo schoolchildren.
In a statement issued in Enugu on Saturday, Obi expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the safe return of the victims, describing their efforts as crucial to the children’s freedom.
The former Anambra State governor said he was relieved and pleased by the rescue, adding that the development was a moment worthy of appreciation.
“I am greatly relieved and delighted to learn of the safe rescue of the schoolchildren who were kidnapped,” Obi said.
“I sincerely thank all those whose tireless efforts made their freedom possible, especially the security personnel and everyone who worked behind the scenes.”
While welcoming the successful operation, Obi raised concerns over the continued cases of schoolchildren being abducted across the country, describing the trend as a serious national challenge requiring immediate attention.
He urged governments at all levels to strengthen the nation’s security system and prioritise the protection of citizens, particularly children.
According to him, every Nigerian child should have the opportunity to access education in a safe environment without the fear of violence or abduction.
Obi called for continued commitment towards creating a country where students can learn without security threats, while also celebrating the rescued pupils, their families, schools and Nigerians over the positive outcome.
He noted that the incident showed that coordinated efforts and collective responsibility could lead to meaningful results.
