A pilot died and a passenger is fighting for his life after a light aircraft crashed near East Fortune Airfield in North Berwick, Scotland.
The incident occurred around 4:55 pm on Thursday, May 8, 2025. The pilot, a 40-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a 42-year-old man, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in critical condition.
“We received a report of a light aircraft having crashed in the East Fortune area around 4:55 pm on Thursday, May 8, 2025,” said a police spokesperson. “Emergency services attended, however, the 40-year-old male pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin is aware.”
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident, deploying two appliances and specialist resources to ensure the area was safe. “Crews left after ensuring the area was made safe,” said a spokesperson.
The Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) has been notified, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
