The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three armed robbery suspects and recovered several arms in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, carried out the arrest on March 21.
Ikenga added that the operation is in continuation of an earlier operation conducted after intelligence gathering, following sustained investigation and interrogations in the area.
He listed two pump-action guns, two locally made Beretta pistols, five rounds of 9mm ammunition, seven live cartridges, a beret linked to a cult group, and body armour as some of the arms recovered from the suspects.
The statement read, “In continuation of an earlier operation by Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, which led to the arrest of three suspects and recovery of arms in Ogidi on 21st March 2026, the Anambra State Police Command has recorded further breakthrough following sustained investigation and interrogation.
“The operatives made additional progress with the arrest of the suspected ringleader of the syndicate, one Chukwuka Anene ‘M’, aged 46 years, who confessed to being the armourer of the gang.
“The suspect subsequently led police operatives to the gang’s hideout in Ogidi, where the following items were recovered: two pump-action guns, two locally made Beretta pistols, five rounds of 9mm ammunition, seven live cartridges, a beret linked to a cult group, and body armour.
“The command has intensified efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang, while investigations remain ongoing. Further developments will be communicated in due course.”
According to him, the Anambra State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and urges members of the public to continue to support the Police with credible information.
Summitpost on March 24 reported that the Anambra State Police Command has busted a five-member criminal gang that specialises in robbing and dispossessing unsuspecting commercial transporters of their vehicles and other belongings in Ihiala LGA of the state.
During the operation carried out by operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in the early hours on Tuesday, several firearms were recovered, including one locally made Beretta pistol, three Qlink motorcycles (150 Tiger model) suspected to have been stolen and a red-coloured face mask.
