Police arrest two suspected thugs over attack on Bauchi PDP event

The Bauchi State Police Command has detained two individuals suspected to be involved in violent disruptions during a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) political event in the state.

The suspects are alleged to have participated in an attack on a PDP governorship affirmation programme, during which vehicles were damaged and campaign materials destroyed.

The incident was reportedly carried out by a group of suspected political thugs who stormed the venue, causing panic and interrupting proceedings linked to the party’s activities.

Confirming the arrests on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Bauchi, Nafiu Habib, said operatives from the ‘B’ Division, GRA, apprehended the suspects following investigations into criminal conspiracy, public disturbance, and mischief.

According to the police, the attack occurred on May 24, 2026, at the PDP Secretariat along the Maiduguri Bypass during the party’s governorship primary exercise.

The assailants allegedly vandalised campaign banners, smashed vehicle windscreens, and fled the scene on motorcycles after causing disruption.

The police said intelligence-led operations were launched after the incident gained public attention on social media, leading to the identification and arrest of the suspects.

The arrested persons were named as Hamza Abdullahi, also known as “Dawa,” from Behind Old Airport, Bauchi, and Abdul Malik Dahiru, popularly called “Black,” from the Doya area of the state.

Authorities stated that the suspects have been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit for further investigation and will be prosecuted upon completion of the process.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani Aliyu, warned against acts capable of undermining public peace, particularly during political activities, stressing that violence and political thuggery would not be tolerated.

He also urged residents to remain calm, obey the law, and report suspicious activities to security agencies for prompt action.
