The police command in Niger says it has arrested two suspects for criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, and cheating in Minna.
In a statement on Wednesday by its spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the command said the case was transferred to SCID from Minna Police Area Command on January 7 for investigation.
”On the said date at about 2:30 p.m., the complainant went to Mobil Park to receive a parcel sent to him through a driver who was given the package at Nyanya Park, Abuja. The parcel was said to contain 113.93 grams of gold worth over N20 million, which was made known to the driver by the sender of the package.
“The driver communicated with the designated recipient of the parcel, who agreed to collect the item from him on the arrival of the driver in Minna.
“On reaching the park, the recipient met the driver offloading the vehicle with the second suspect, and when asked for the parcel, he alleged that someone else had come to collect the package,” the statement said.
He said that the action of the two raised suspicion, which prompted the complainant to arrest them.
He said that the investigation was still ongoing to recover the said parcel, after which the suspects would be prosecuted.
