The Plateau State Police Command has strongly condemned recent violent incidents involving the destruction of farmlands in Lokojoro community and the killing of livestock in Nding and Kasuwan Dankali areas of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, described the developments as regrettable and capable of undermining peace and stability in the affected communities.
The Commissioner expressed strong disapproval over the attacks on agricultural property and livestock, warning that such actions could trigger wider insecurity if not checked.
He stated that security agencies have been directed to intensify enforcement of existing restrictions, particularly on motorcycle operations within Barkin Ladi LGA, as part of efforts to prevent further escalation of tension.
According to the statement, the government’s restrictions on both commercial and private motorcycles in the area will be strictly enforced in collaboration with other security operatives to maintain order and protect lives and property.
The police command also reaffirmed the continued ban on commercial tricycles, popularly called “Keke NAPEP,” on Sallah Day and the day after, stressing that the directive remains active.
CP Ewah further reminded residents that the prohibition of commercial motorcycles within Jos-Bukuru metropolis and other areas under the Jos master plan is still in force.
He clarified that these measures are not intended to infringe on citizens’ rights, but are necessary steps to sustain peace and prevent breakdown of law and order in the state.
The Commissioner also confirmed that investigations have commenced into the incidents, with efforts underway to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible.
Residents were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and to support security agencies with credible information that could assist ongoing investigations and improve security operations across the area.
