Police Confirm Probe of AIG Jimoh, Summon VeryDarkMan Over Corruption, Framing Allegations

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed it is investigating the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Moshood Jimoh, over corruption allegations raised by social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.

In a statement on Tuesday by Force PRO, CSP Ani Iniedu, the Force said AIG Jimoh has been invited for questioning by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as part of an internal administrative review.

The police said the criminal matter linked to the allegations is already before a court of competent jurisdiction following DPP advice, and is subjudice. It stressed it will not try the case in the media.

The Force also said it invited VeryDarkMan to substantiate his claims. A formal invitation letter was issued to him on July 30, 2026 to appear at the Force CID office in Abuja.

For weeks, VeryDarkMan had in videos accused AIG Jimoh of corruption, alleging that police under Jimoh as Lagos CP framed businessman Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi over killings of Sheriff Ishola/Isola Salami in April 2023 and Demola/Prince Ademola Akinloye in August 2024 in Ajiran, Eti-Osa, Lagos. He claimed suspects’ later confessions implicating Akanbi were obtained under pressure.

The police affirmed Nigerians’ right to demand accountability but warned against defamation and unsubstantiated allegations, saying any officer found culpable will face sanctions, while false claims could attract legal action.
