The Police Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command said it foiled an armed robbery operation and arrested a suspect in the Karu Site area of Abuja.
The FCT police public relations officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
She said the foiling of the robbery operation and the arrest of the suspect on December 27 at about 3:45 a.m. followed a distress call through the command’s emergency number.
Ms Adeh said the caller had reported an ongoing armed robbery operation at a residence in Karu Site.
“A police response team from Karu Division, led by the divisional police officer (DPO), was swiftly deployed to the scene.
“Upon sighting the police team, the suspects opened fire, and the police officers responded professionally, subdued, and arrested one of the suspects, while two other accomplices fled the scene.
“Exhibits recovered during the operation include two mobile phones, one locally fabricated firearm, four live cartridges, two knives, one cutlass, and one torchlight,” she said.
Ms Adeh said the arrested suspect was currently receiving medical attention, while investigations were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspected armed robbers.
She said the FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Miller Dantawaye, commended the officers for their prompt response and professionalism.
Ms Adeh said the CP had enjoined residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the command through its emergency lines at 08032003913 and 07057337653.
