Traditional rulers in Taraba State have urged youths to avoid participating in the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, 2024. The monarchs emphasised dialogue as the best option for addressing grievances.
His Majesty, Dr. Ishaku Adda Ali Matakhitswen, Aku Uka and Chairman of the Taraba State Council of Traditional Rulers, appealed to citizens to refrain from participating in the protest, stating, “Wukari and Taraba State have not yet fully recovered from the previous #EndSARS protests.”
Alhaji Abbas Njidda Tafida, Emir of Muri, also cautioned youths against participating in the protest, citing potential risks and adverse consequences. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peaceful coexistence and fostering dialogue, saying, “The safety and harmony of our community is paramount. We must guide our youth towards constructive means of voicing their concerns.”
Dr. Zubairu Mohammed Hammangabdo Sambo, Lamdo Gashaka, advised youths not to participate in the protest, highlighting the Taraba state Governor’s people-oriented programs and policies. He warned that any peaceful protest could be hijacked by hoodlums, saying, “The end result will not be pleasant.”
