Public Hearing Held on Bill to Establish Federal Medical Centre in Sisinbaki, Nasarawa State

A 2-Day public hearing on a bill for the establishment of Federal Medical Centre, Sisinbaki, Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State has been conducted by the House of Representatives at the

Conference Room 236, House of Representatives, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

The Public hearing conducted by the House Committee on Health started at 10:00 a.m. Prompt and had in attendance rep members with stakeholders describing the bill and its intent as a worthy venture for the development of healthcare in the state.

The bill, sponsored by the member representing Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa Eggon Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable Jeremiah Umaru ACA,ACTI was read for the first time on 18th July, 2023 and for the second time on 6th March 2024.

The Nigerian Medical Association(NMA) from Nasarawa State threw their weight in support of the bill, which calls for the establishment of the medical centre.

Speaking at the public hearing on Monday, during the public hearing on health institutions, Dr. Attah Peter and his team indicated that physical access to this infrastructure will play a significant role in improving the health status of the Nasarawa North zone and the entire Nasarawa State in general.

They were adamant that if there is an FMC in Sisinbaki to service the entire people of Akwanga, Wamba and Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Areas (neighbouring states inclusive), it will complement the good works of the state government and ultimately create massive employment for the people thereby reducing the problem of insecurity in the zone.

More importantly, the delegation explained that it would help in reducing maternal-child mortality rate within the federal constituency and neighbouring communities such as Kaduna and Plateau States.

The delegation was led by the Vice Chairman, Dr. Isa Ohyoma, who represented the Chairman of NMA.

Other members of the delegations include Dr. Obele Y. A, NMA PRO, Dr. Dabot Theophilus, President ARD FMC Keffi, Dr. Ashimom Timothy, Secretary General ARD FMC Keffi, Mr. Nuhu Obagu-Sec. Staff and Dr. Ado Theophilus Elder.

The Committee Chairman, Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji asked that all Memoranda are to be submitted in 30 copies and a soft copy to the Clerk, House Representatives Committee on Health Institutions, Room OSA (WHITE HOUSE), National Assembly Complex, Abuja on or before Friday 24th May 2024.
