The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has rejected claims suggesting that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has endorsed any political party or candidate, describing such reports as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Tuesday via its official Public Relations handle on X, the church said it would no longer remain silent over what it called repeated distortions and intentional misrepresentation of its leader’s statements and positions.
RCCG stated that both the church and Adeboye have for years been subjected to narratives driven by personal and political interests, insisting that such claims must stop immediately.
“The lies have gone on long enough. It stops now!!! For far too long, Pastor E.A. Adeboye and The Redeemed Christian Church of God have been subjected to false narratives, deliberate misrepresentations, and misleading commentaries driven by personal interests and agenda-setting,” the statement read.
The church emphasised that only information released through its verified communication channels should be regarded as official, warning the public against relying on unverified sources.
It also faulted commentators, bloggers, and some media outlets for attributing political positions to Adeboye without proper verification, particularly on issues relating to elections and governance.
According to RCCG, neither Adeboye nor the church would be defined by false narratives, adding that silence should not be mistaken for consent.
The statement further clarified that the cleric has consistently maintained a non-partisan stance, noting that he only encourages members to participate in civic duties, including obtaining their PVCs and voting according to personal choice.
RCCG dismissed claims that Adeboye engaged in political campaigning, stressing that members of the church belong to different political affiliations and are free to make independent choices.
It also addressed reports alleging that the cleric halted a planned protest, explaining that he only conveyed an instruction from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria regarding adjustments to a nationwide prayer programme format.
The church further rejected suggestions that Adeboye has been silent on national issues, stating that he has, on several occasions, spoken on matters such as insecurity, corruption, governance, and economic challenges, though often through moral counsel and prayer rather than political confrontation.
RCCG urged journalists, bloggers, and the general public to verify all statements attributed to the church or its leader through official channels before publication.
It stressed that responsible journalism requires fact-checking and accuracy, warning against the spread of unverified claims.
“The public deserves the truth, not speculation. Verify before you believe. Fact-check before you publish,” the statement added.
