The International Organization for Migration (IOM) delivered humanitarian assistance to about 17.8 million people across 170 countries and territories in 2025, according to a report released on Wednesday.
Established in 1951, the UN migration agency supports refugees, internally displaced persons and vulnerable communities. It also works with governments to develop safe migration policies while promoting orderly and humane migration worldwide.
The report showed that the organisation focused its humanitarian interventions in crisis-affected regions, including Gaza, Haiti, Myanmar, Ukraine and the Sahel. During the year, IOM provided emergency shelter to 7.3 million people.
It also conducted 4.2 million primary healthcare consultations and provided water, sanitation and hygiene support to 5.1 million people.
Beyond its direct humanitarian operations, IOM said its data and analysis contributed to 21 humanitarian response plans, enabling governments and humanitarian partners to better identify and prioritise communities in need.
The report stressed the growing importance of coordinated, evidence-based humanitarian responses at a time when global funding for aid continues to decline despite rising humanitarian needs.
IOM Deputy Director-General for Operations, Ugochi Daniels, said conflicts, natural disasters, disease outbreaks and displacement pushed humanitarian needs to unprecedented levels, even as available resources continued to shrink.
She noted that despite the funding challenges, the organisation maintained its presence in communities most affected by crises, ensuring that life-saving assistance reached millions of vulnerable people.
