Reuben Dennis Takes Over As Rivers NSCDC Commandant

The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has appointed Commandant Reuben Lessor Dennis as its new head following the retirement of Commandant Joachin Okafor.

Dennis officially took over leadership during a brief handover ceremony held on Tuesday at the command headquarters on Olu Obasanjo Road, Port Harcourt.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Ihemnacho Umeado, the outgoing commandant formally transferred the symbol of authority to Dennis, who previously served as the command’s second-in-command and most recently headed Operations at Zone 9, Port Harcourt.

During his farewell remarks, Okafor expressed gratitude to the NSCDC Commandant-General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for the opportunity to serve the corps and the nation. He also appreciated Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for supporting the command, particularly through the donation of 10 Hilux patrol vehicles that boosted its operational capacity.

Highlighting his achievements in office, Okafor advised his successor to prioritise securing a permanent site for the Rivers State Command.

Speaking after assuming office, Dennis pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor and strengthen cooperation with other security agencies operating in the state. He also promised to work closely with relevant stakeholders to enhance safety and security across Rivers.

The new commandant vowed to intensify efforts to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, warning criminals and vandals that the command would take decisive action against anyone involved in economic sabotage.

Dennis further assured that his administration would focus on intelligence gathering, continuous training and retraining of personnel, and improved welfare for officers and men of the command.

He warned that indiscipline and misconduct would not be tolerated, stressing that any officer found wanting would face appropriate disciplinary measures.

Calling on residents to support security agencies, Dennis noted that maintaining peace and security is a shared responsibility. He also thanked President Bola Tinubu and the NSCDC Commandant-General for entrusting him with the new responsibility.
