Dr Obah Edom Tawo, an aspirant for the Obubra/Etung Federal House of Representatives seat, has begun consultations ahead of the election, starting with a visit to the Kwididen and Clan Head of Adun Kingdom in Obubra Local Government Area.
The visit, which had a strong cultural touch, was part of efforts to seek royal blessings and connect with the people at the grassroots as he formally signals interest in the race.

Receiving him, the Kwididen of Adun Kingdom, HRM Patrick Erong, expressed surprise at how early the consultation was coming, noting that it shows seriousness on the part of the aspirant. He acknowledged that the journey ahead would not be easy, especially as Tawo is contesting from the opposition, and offered prayers for strength and wisdom.
He also spoke about the need for unity among the people of Obubra and neighbouring communities, stressing that leadership should not be about where one comes from, but about what one can deliver.
According to him, many elected leaders lose touch with their people after getting into office, a trend he said must change.
“We are not concerned about where you come from, but what you can do for the people,” he said, urging the aspirant to stay connected to his constituency if elected.
The monarch added that the Obubra Traditional Brothers Council supports credible leadership that puts the welfare of the people first, while also calling for more inclusion in decision-making.
In his response, Dr Tawo thanked the royal father for the reception, describing the visit as an important first step in engaging with the people.
He said traditional institutions remain key in guiding communities and promised to maintain a close relationship with them if given the opportunity to serve.
Tawo also assured that his focus would be on effective representation, with attention on youths, women and children. He said his campaign would be built on accessibility, accountability and regular engagement with constituents.
Other traditional leaders present, including HRH Sylvanus Uduma Ovat, Clan Head of Ubibira, and HRH Chief Enyam Louis, Acting Paramount Ruler of Obubra and Clan Head of Osopong, also offered prayers and words of encouragement.
They urged him to remain focused, uphold integrity and remember the expectations of the people.
The visit ended with prayers and blessings, as the royal father encouraged him to stay committed to the process.
Dr Tawo, who appeared visibly moved, said receiving the royal blessing was the main reason for the visit and promised to return, assuring the people of continued engagement as his campaign progresses.
