Nigeria’s Super Eagles fought back from a two-goal deficit to secure a 3-3 draw against Russia in an international friendly on Tuesday night.
The result came after Nigeria suffered a 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, with Eric Chelle’s side looking to end the international window on a positive note.
The Super Eagles took the lead when Kelechi Iheanacho marked his return to the national team with a long-range strike. However, Russia responded strongly, with Lechi Sadulaev and Matvey Kislyak scoring to put the hosts 2-1 ahead before half-time.
Aleksei Miranchuk extended Russia’s advantage in the second half, leaving Nigeria facing another defeat. The three-time African champions, however, mounted a spirited comeback as Peter Edokpolor pulled one goal back before Akor Adams completed the fightback to make it 3-3.
Neither side could find a winning goal in the closing stages as Nigeria settled for a draw in their final match of the international window.
