In a fierce overnight operation, Russia’s defense ministry announced on Thursday that it successfully intercepted and destroyed 77 Ukrainian drones.
The incident occurred just two days after Ukraine launched its largest drone strike on Moscow since the war began three years ago.
According to the Russian defense ministry, 30 drones were taken down over the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, while 25 more were destroyed in Kaluga. Additional drones were intercepted over the Kursk, Voronezh, Rostov, and Belgorod regions.
This latest wave of drone attacks follows a massive assault on Moscow earlier in the week, where Russian forces intercepted 337 Ukrainian drones. The attack resulted in the deaths of three people and left several others injured. Moscow’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, described it as the most intense drone strike on the capital to date.
Meanwhile, Ukraine also faced heavy bombardment on Thursday morning. In the southern city of Kherson, a 42-year-old woman was killed in an attack, according to Roman Mrochko, head of the regional military administration. Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk authorities also reported coming under attack.
The escalating drone warfare reflects the rising tensions between the two nations, with both sides ramping up strikes as the conflict continues to intensify.
