In a significant move to strengthen cultural and educational ties between Saudi Arabia and China, the first batch of Mandarin teachers from China arrived in Saudi Arabia on Friday. The teachers were warmly received at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Airport in Tabuk, where they were greeted with traditional Saudi coffee and flowers.

“We are thrilled to welcome these talented teachers to Saudi Arabia,” said a spokesperson for the Saudi Education Ministry. “This initiative marks a significant milestone in our efforts to promote language education and cultural exchange between our nations.”
The 175 Chinese language teachers, who completed their pre-service training at Tianjin Normal University, will begin teaching Mandarin in public schools across the kingdom this academic year. The language will be taught in schools in Riyadh, Yanbu, the Eastern Province, Jeddah, Jazan, and Tabuk, alongside Arabic and English.

Chinese teachers get warm welcome upon arriving at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz airport in Tabuk.
“This is a historic moment for us,” said one of the Chinese teachers, who wished to remain anonymous. “We are excited to share our language and culture with Saudi students and contribute to the growing friendship between our countries.”
The initiative is part of an agreement between the Saudi Education Ministry and the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation under China’s Education Ministry to enhance cooperation in Chinese language education. Saudi Arabia announced plans to expand Chinese language education following Chinese President Xi Jinping’s official visit to the kingdom in late 2022.
“We believe that language education is key to building bridges between nations,” said the Saudi Education Ministry spokesperson. “We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this initiative on our students and our relationship with China.”
