The Spinal Cord Injuries Association of Nigeria (SCIAN), Nasarawa State, has appealed to the government and well-spirited individuals to provide assistive devices to members of the association in the state.
The association said that if provided, the devices would ease mobility and foster independence among spinal cord injury survivors.
Peter Abashi, the state chairman of the association, made the appeal on Saturday while distributing assistive devices to members in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.
The gesture was courtesy of the Beautiful Gate Foundation.
“However, the needs are still enormous. Many of our members are in urgent need of assistive devices such as manual and electric wheelchairs, transfer boards, walking frames, pressure-relief cushions, and other mobility and rehabilitation equipment.
“It is against this background that I wish to make a passionate appeal to the general public, philanthropists, government officials, corporate organisations, NGOs, community leaders, and well-meaning individuals to partner with us in this noble cause.
“If you have the capacity to support us financially, donate assistive devices, or facilitate any form of assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to the association for our members’ improved standard of living,” he added.
The chairman appreciated the Beautiful Gate Foundation for the donation and prayed that God would bless the NGO abundantly.
“I am delighted to announce that one of our plans has now become a reality.
“Through the generosity of an NGO, the Beautiful Gate Foundation, tricycle wheelchairs and crutches have been donated to our association for distribution to our members free of charge.
“This intervention is a great encouragement to us, and we sincerely appreciate the foundation for this remarkable act of kindness and commitment to improving the lives of persons with disabilities.
“As you may recall, last week, the Spinal Cord Injuries Association of Nigeria (SCIAN), Nasarawa State Chapter, successfully held its 2026 Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Programme in Lafia,” Mr Abashi said.
According to him, during the programme, the association emphasised the importance of supporting its members and persons with special needs, particularly through the provision of assistive devices and other essential needs.
He also appreciated Ovey Waki, education secretary, Akun Development Area and other distinguished individuals for their support for the association.
Mr Abashi urged members to make judicious use of the items to positively change their standard of living.
The chairman assured members of the association’s commitment to initiating different policies and programmes that would have a direct bearing on their lives.
Also speaking, Akolo David, special assistant to Gov. Abdullahi Sule on Youths and Bala Ewuga, chairman, Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA), Wakama branch, among others, solicited support for the association to succeed.
The assistive devices distributed included a wheelchair, crutches and walkers.
