Kogi State, Nigeria – The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for governor of Kogi State, Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, has denied stepping down from the race. The denial comes after a fake letter of withdrawal began circulating online.
In a press release issued on November 4, 2023, the MuriSam Campaign Council, Ajaka’s campaign organization, stated that the letter was “false and baseless” and the work of “miscreants” and the “sinking ship” of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The press release also stated that Ajaka is “the candidate of the people” and “can not step down for anyone at this point.” It also accused the APC of trying to “turn the SDP against the ADC” and of being “frustrated and looking for every means to stay relevant after failing the masses in the last eight years.”
The press release concluded by calling on the general public, especially SDP supporters, to disregard the fake letter of withdrawal. It also stated that the letter is “not signed by Isaiah Davies Ijele and Ocheja Unekwu,” the Director General of New Media and Campaign Coordinator of the MuriSam Campaign Council, respectively.
