The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the validation of his electoral victory by the Supreme Court on Thursday, October 26, 2023.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ambassador Rufus Aiyenigba, the SDP commended the Supreme Court for its “historic judicial action” and for “deepening our political jurisprudence and our faith in democracy.”
The SDP also called on all Nigerians to rally around President Tinubu and support his “Renewed Hope Agenda.” The party expressed confidence in the President’s “statecraft, capacity, and commitment to engender good Nigerian society and achieve noble legacies.”
The SDP also urged the President to focus on addressing the prevailing economic hardship in the country. The party called on him to deploy “strategic, broad-based people-centred economic programmes and social welfare interventions to significantly ameliorate the current economic crisis and declining standards of living.”
The SDP’s statement is a significant development, as it shows that the party is willing to put aside its differences with the ruling party and support the President in the interest of the country. This is a positive sign for Nigeria’s democracy and shows that the country’s political parties are capable of working together for the common good.
