The police on Monday charged a 45-year-old security guard, Ismail Obafunsho, before the Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for breaking into a shop to steal goods worth N2.2 million.
Mr Obafunsho, whose address was not provided, is on trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others at large conspired to commit the offence sometime in 2025, at about 7:00 a.m., at the Bells Junction area in Ota.
He alleged that the defendant conspired with his accomplices to break into a shop and steal four bags of rice, 10 packs of Indomie, 10 packs of Pepsi and other valuable items, all worth N2.2 million.
The magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail of N300,000 with one surety in like sum.
Ms Fadairo held that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the state government.
She consequently adjourned the case until March 2 for a hearing.
