Senator Eteng Williams, who represents Cross River Central Senatorial District, has inaugurated the construction of the Mkpani Ring Road in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, describing the project as a fulfillment of key promises made to constituents during his electioneering campaign.
The inauguration ceremony marked the commencement of the two kilometre road linking the Aduma, Afaben and Ajere communities and drew a large gathering of traditional rulers, community leaders and residents of the area.
Addressing stakeholders at the event, Senator Williams said the road project was part of his commitment to providing basic infrastructure needed to drive economic growth and improve the living conditions of rural communities. He explained that efficient road networks remain vital to agrarian economies, particularly for farmers who rely on accessible routes to transport produce to markets.
According to the senator, the Mkpani Ring Road is intended to close long standing infrastructure gaps, improve connectivity and unlock economic opportunities for residents. He assured constituents that the project fits into a broader development framework designed to deliver sustainable growth and visible dividends of democracy across the senatorial district.
The deployment of heavy duty construction equipment to the project site was greeted with enthusiasm by residents, many of whom expressed confidence that the road would enhance commercial activities and spur urban development in Mkpani and neighbouring communities.
Community members and other stakeholders noted that the project would ease movement, improve access to markets and contribute significantly to the economic advancement of the area.
In separate reactions, traditional rulers, political leaders and community representatives praised the initiative, describing it as a clear demonstration of inclusive and people oriented leadership focused on grassroots development.
The Mkpani Ring Road is expected to complement the ongoing Mkpani to Agoi Road project being implemented by the Cross River State Government. Improved connectivity from both projects is projected to boost agricultural productivity, reduce transportation costs and support sustainable livelihoods.
Observers said the project aligns with Senator Williams’ broader campaign pledges to expand rural road infrastructure across Cross River Central.
Other road interventions facilitated by the senator include the grading of access roads in Iyamoyong, Okumurutet and Iyamitet in Obubra Local Government Area, the grading of Agba One and Agba Two rural roads in Boki Local Government Area, the rehabilitation of Okundi, Irruan and Wula roads in Boki, as well as the grading of the Abia to Bakassi Road in Etung Local Government Area.
