The Peoples Democratic Party has mourned the sudden passing of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo, whose unexpected collapse and death on Thursday has plunged the party into grief.
In a condolence statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP described the news as a devastating shock. The party noted that the development has left the National Working Committee led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, and its members across the country in deep mourning.
The PDP hailed the late Ewhrudjakpo as a steadfast and dependable party loyalist, describing him as a man guided by principle, conviction and integrity. It added that he was an honest and consistent leader whose political journey was anchored on strong character and unwavering belief.
According to the statement, Senator Ewhrudjakpo embodied these values throughout his public service, and his death represents a painful and irreplaceable loss to both the party and the nation.
“We are deeply saddened by the departure of this icon of political integrity, and we pray for the peaceful repose of his soul,” the statement said.
The party also extended its condolences to the government and people of Bayelsa State, even as the state government has yet to issue an official reaction to the tragedy.
A former federal lawmaker and respected figure within the PDP, Senator Ewhrudjakpo served as Deputy Governor until his sudden passing.
