Six States Set for Bye-Elections as INEC Publishes Final Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the official list of candidates cleared to participate in the bye-elections scheduled for June 20, 2026, to fill vacant legislative seats in six states.

 

The elections will cover vacancies in the Senate, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly resulting from deaths, appointments and other circumstances that left the positions unoccupied.

For the Ondo South Senatorial District, the candidates are Adesanya Olaoluwa of the APP, Faduyile Francis Adedayo of the APC, Akinwumi Adeolu Harrison of the APM and Nejo Funso Clement of the BP.

 

In the Nasarawa North Senatorial District, voters will choose from Halilu Danladi Envwulu-Aza (APC), Labaran Maku (LP), John Paul Araneshri (NNPP) and Emmanuel David Ombugadu (PDP).

 

The contest for the Rivers South East Senatorial District features Douglas Fabeeke Beeka of the AA, Osarosaka Ebenezer Erewari of the APC, Sam Kinanee Barikpoa of the LP and Nwogu Olaka Johnson of the PDP.

 

For the Enugu North Senatorial District, the approved candidates are Asogwa Ikeje Israel (APC), Aneke Kingsley Chukwuebuka (BP) and Ezeme Nestor Chika (PDP).

 

In the Zuru State Constituency seat of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Garba Aiki Rabiu of the APC and Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the LP will compete for the position.

 

Meanwhile, the race for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat in Kano State will be contested by Rabiu Shuaibu (APC), Lawan Garba Haruna (APM) and Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad (LP).

 

INEC stated that preparations for the polls are on course and assured political parties, candidates and voters of its commitment to conducting a credible and transparent electoral process across all affected constituencies.
