Human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has been elected as the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) ahead of the 2027 general election, marking his third consecutive attempt at the presidency under the party he founded.
Sowore was announced as the party’s flag bearer during its presidential primary held on Tuesday in Abuja.
Chairman of the AAC primary election committee, Kayode Babayemi, said Sowore’s selection reflects the party’s confidence in his leadership and long-standing commitment to justice, accountability, and democratic governance.
Addressing delegates after his emergence, Sowore described the AAC as Nigeria’s most authentic opposition platform, insisting it offers a clear ideological alternative to the country’s mainstream political structure.
According to him, the party remains “the only genuine opposition” and a movement built on fearless expression and resistance to corruption and poor governance.
He said Nigerians are increasingly frustrated by unemployment, corruption, and systemic inefficiency, adding that the AAC is positioned to drive what he called a “revolutionary change” in the country.
Sowore also dismissed claims that the party lacks electoral structure, insisting the turnout of delegates from across the country was evidence of its growing national reach.
Following his emergence as candidate, Sowore also resigned as National Chairman of the AAC.
The party confirmed the development on its official social media handle, announcing Samuel Ajeigbe as the new National Chairman.
Sowore’s latest nomination makes it the third consecutive presidential race he will contest under the AAC platform.
