National Economic Council,NEC, has given a September 9 ultimatum to four states yet to submit their reports on the establishment of state police.
The council also resolved to adopt comprehensive reports from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday.
Acting Governor of Oyo State, Abdulraheen Lawal, stated, “An update on the establishment of state police was considered due to security challenges across the nation… NEC decided that those states must make their submissions on or before Monday next week, otherwise, whatever decision on the establishment of state police will be binding on those states that refused to submit.”
The four states yet to submit their reports are Adamawa, Kwara, Sokoto, Kebbi, and the FCT. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi noted, “The flood was more devastating along the Northeast axis…Lives were lost, and properties were destroyed. We need to provide food security.”
NEC also discussed the flood situation and acknowledged the federal government’s support in releasing N3 billion for palliatives. Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa added, “The Flood committee has to be reconstituted… The council has decided that Monday will be the deadline for all states to submit details of damages for appropriate support.”
