Super Eagles captain William Ekong has scored his first goal in Saudi Arabia, netting a penalty in the 87th minute for Al Kholood against table-toppers Al Hilal.
“I’m delighted to get off the mark in Saudi Arabia,” Ekong said in a post-match interview. “Although it’s disappointing that we couldn’t get the result we wanted, I’m proud of the team’s fighting spirit.”
The 31-year-old central defender’s goal was a consolation as Al Kholood fell 4-2 at home. Despite the loss, Ekong’s coach praised his performance.
“William has been a rock for us since his arrival,” said Al Kholood’s coach. “His experience and leadership are invaluable to the team.”
Ekong has played all five games for Al Kholood since his summer transfer and will look to build on this goal-scoring
