Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been eliminated from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco following a 1-0 quarter-final defeat to Cameroon, ending their hopes of securing an automatic place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The decisive moment came in the 19th minute when 19-year-old Myriam Nyadjou produced a powerful free-kick that gave the Indomitable Lionesses the lead. Despite creating several opportunities and controlling much of the encounter, Nigeria struggled to find the back of the net as Cameroon’s defence held firm.
Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina played a key role in the victory, making several crucial saves and earning the Woman of the Match award. The defeat also prevented Nigeria from reaching the semi-finals of the competition for the first time in their history.
For Cameroon, the victory marked only their second win over Nigeria in 14 meetings. Their previous victory came in a friendly match in Yaounde in February 2026.
With the quarter-final exit, the Super Falcons will now have to pursue one of the remaining routes to the 2027 World Cup through the CAF play-offs involving the teams eliminated at the quarter-final stage. Their campaign for an 11th continental title has therefore come to an unexpected end.
