The Police Command in Akwa Ibom State on Thursday said it arrested a suspected car snatcher and recovered a stolen vehicle during routine night patrol.
This is contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, in Uyo.
Ms John said that on January 20, at about 11:30 pm, operatives of the command on night patrol along Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, received a distress call from a Bolt driver.
According to the PPRO, the bolt driver reported that his car has been robbed at gun point.
Ms John said that when the operatives arrived at the scene, they discovered that the suspects had fled with the vehicle.
“However, through prompt intelligence gathering, operatives traced the stolen vehicle to Nkwot Ikono Village, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.
“Consequently, one man from Nna Enin Village, Uruan Local Government Area, was arrested in possession of the stolen Toyota Corolla vehicle, with registration number DKA 337 CB. The suspect confessed to the commission of the crime during preliminary interrogation,” Ms John said.
The police spokesperson said the suspect was currently in police custody, adding that investigation was ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal gang.
Ms John commended the swift response and professionalism of the operatives.
She reassured residents of the state of the command’s unwavering commitment to combating crimes in the state.
She urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report all suspicious movements in their environments to the police for prompt action.
