The Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has affirmed his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of workers in the state, emphasizing its crucial role in driving socio-economic progress.
He stated this during the 2024 May Day celebration at Jolly Nyame Stadium Jalingo.
Governor Kefas hailed workers, describing them as the backbone of society, considering their relentless dedication to economic stability and social service delivery.
He retreated his administration’s obligation to ensure their well-being, safety, and professional growth.
He outlined ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing working conditions, including access to quality healthcare, timely salary payments, and skill development programs to boost productivity.
Governor Kefas reiterated his commitment to administrative reforms geared towards transparency, accountability, and fostering a conducive business environment.
He affirmed the mandatory nature of gratuity and pension payments and pledged to implement a range of measures to further support workers, including the establishment of a housing scheme for dignified accommodations, procurement of vehicles for public transportation, and initiatives for human capital development.
He assured that all requests from labor unions would be addressed.
In his remarks, the Head of Civil Service, Mr. Paul Tino Maigida, commended the government’s efforts and called for continued training and capacity building for workers. Labor union leaders also praised Governor Kefas for his pro-worker stance and presented additional requests for consideration.
The event featured fraternal messages from dignitaries and concluded with the ceremonial cutting of the May Day cake by the Governor and labor representatives, symbolizing unity and solidarity among stakeholders.
