The Philanthropy of Idris HK: Idris Hussein Kashim’s Community-First Interventions in Kogi East

Idris Hussein Kashim, popularly known as _Idris HK_ or _Idrisima_, has built a reputation across Kogi East as a businessman whose philanthropy focuses on practical, community-level needs. Through the _Idris HK Foundation_, he has directed resources toward education, water, power, healthcare, and direct cash relief in Dekina, Idah, Igalamela-Odolu, Ankpa, Ofu, and surrounding areas.

Powering Communities: Transformers for Ofakaga and Ofokopi

In a fresh intervention, the Idris HK Foundation fulfilled its March 2026 promise by delivering a 33KVA transformer to Ofakaga Community in Ofu Local Government Area. The handover, marked by jubilation from residents, comes after years of power outages caused by a faulty transformer.

Announcing the development, the foundation stated:

-“Yesterday, Idris HK Foundation fulfilled its promise made in March by delivering a 33KVA transformer to the people of Ofakaga. In my remarks to the people of Ofakaga and to those who keep asking why the Chairman of Idris HK Foundation has not obtained a ticket to run for Senate, I made it clear that our focus remains on delivering impactful projects and uplifting our people from the darkness caused by lack of electricity and inadequate access to clean water for proper hygiene.”

The statement added that the foundation had also visited Ofokopi Community after a viral video showed residents appealing for help following eight years in darkness.

“We also visited Ofokopi, and I am pleased to announce that another 33KVA transformer will soon be delivered to the people of Ofokopi. When we say we are changing the narrative, this is exactly what we mean.”

The project was formally received by the traditional ruler of Ofakaga alongside a PHCN representative. Speaking at the ceremony, Community Leader Alhaji Ibrahim Yakubu said:

“Hon. Idris, you have come not with empty promises but with action. For years, our community has lived in darkness due to a faulty transformer. This is more than metal and wires; this is hope restored and dignity returned to our homes.”

Rev. Fr. Boniface Opaluwa, who represented the donor, noted that Ofakaga “occupies a strategic position in Igala Kingdom and should not be left in darkness.” Rev. Fr. Simeon Omale urged residents to “protect this facility as our own, and use it for the common good.”

The Minister also pledged to improve power supply to Ankpa Local Government Area, extending the foundation’s electricity interventions beyond Ofu LGA.

Education and Youth Support

Education remains a core focus. In Dekina LGA, the foundation paid school fees for 315 pupils of Ofoji Community Secondary School, described by community leaders as a “life-changing intervention.”

The foundation also runs an over ₦7 million scholarship scheme for 50 students at Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa. The program covers tuition and accommodation throughout their NCE program, with the latest ₦1 million tranche released in April 2026.

Beyond Kogi, Idris HK has reportedly paid WAEC and JAMB fees for over 3,000 indigent students and provided start-up capital for women entering business.

Water, Infrastructure, and Direct Relief

Access to water and electricity features heavily in the foundation’s work. In December 2025, 11 projects were commissioned across Idah and Igalamela LGAs, including boreholes in Imere, Amaka, Ajaka, and three additional boreholes in Idah, plus a transformer and solar installations at the General Hospital and Daughters of Charity facility in Idah.

In Dekina, the foundation completed an erosion-control project in Emewe Opada that restored road access to the state capital after six months of isolation. It also flagged off an electricity extension project in Ate Uge and installed a transformer in Obeya Lile after seeing community appeals online.

Other interventions include rural feeder road construction and support for commercial motorcyclists. During religious seasons, the foundation has provided direct cash relief, including a ₦3 million fasting giveaway in February 2026, distributing ₦10,000 each to 300 beneficiaries.

On Politics and Purpose

While his humanitarian work has drawn political attention, Idris HK has consistently framed it as service, not self-interest.

“We are not pursuing elective positions to exploit our people. We became involved in politics because we believe it should provide the resources and opportunity needed to genuinely develop our land and improve the lives of our people. While some see politics as a means of personal gain and exploitation, we see it as an avenue to change the narrative.”

In April 2026, he formally declared his intention to contest the Kogi East senatorial seat in 2027 under the PDP, saying the decision followed consultations and calls from constituents. “I chose humanity over luxury, and I will deliberately channel my resources into community development rather than an extravagant lifestyle,” he said.

Recognition

Traditional rulers, youth leaders, and school officials across visited communities have presented awards and offered prayers in recognition of his interventions. The foundation’s work continues to expand across Kogi East, combining immediate relief with infrastructure projects aimed at long-term community benefit.
