The National Examinations Council, NECO, has clarified that the school where the recent abduction of candidates and officials occurred is not a “miracle center” for examination malpractice.
The Council issued the statement following the rescue of abducted NECO candidates and officials by security operatives in Kogi State on July 17, 2026.
NECO said the clarification became necessary after reports and social media comments linked the school to illegal exam practices, suggesting it was targeted because of such activities.
According to the Council, the abducted candidates were duly registered for the ongoing Senior School Certificate Examination and were writing their papers in line with NECO regulations when the incident occurred.
“The school where abduction took place is not a miracle center,” a NECO official stated. “Our candidates and officials were carrying out legitimate examinations. The attack was criminal and had nothing to do with examination malpractice.”
NECO commended security agencies for the swift rescue operation and reiterated its commitment to working with schools, parents and law enforcement to protect candidates and examination officials nationwide.
The Council also urged the public to avoid speculation that could undermine ongoing investigations and to allow security agencies to complete their work.
The abduction had disrupted examinations in the affected center before the rescued candidates and officials were released.
