Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has expressed concerns over the controversy trailing the proposed 2026 Federal Budget, alleging that it has exposed deeper issues surrounding transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Frank claimed that allegations of inflated budget figures, non-existent projects and questionable spending patterns had further damaged public trust in the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
He said repeated disputes over government expenditure had continued to fuel concerns about financial accountability, accusing the government of failing to take decisive action against corruption among public officials.
“The recent developments and controversy surrounding the 2026 Federal Budget have reinforced concerns about transparency, accountability and the management of public resources,” Frank stated.
The former APC spokesperson alleged that persistent reports of financial impropriety and poor governance had negatively affected citizens’ confidence in the administration, stressing that Nigerians were demanding more openness from those entrusted with public office.
Frank also accused the government of shielding officials facing corruption allegations, claiming that the absence of accountability had created room for the misuse of public funds.
He criticised the 10th National Assembly for what he described as inadequate oversight of the Executive, particularly faulting the Senate leadership for allegedly failing to act as an independent check on government activities.
According to him, such a situation could weaken democratic structures and threaten the principles of constitutional governance.
The former APC chieftain further called on international partners supporting Nigeria’s development to ensure stronger accountability measures are attached to future financial assistance.
He backed ongoing debates in the United States Congress on reviewing aid to Nigeria, saying any future loans, grants or development support should include strict monitoring systems to guarantee that funds are used for the benefit of citizens.
Frank, however, urged Nigerians to remain calm while continuing to demand transparency and accountability from public officials.
He encouraged citizens to protect democratic values and use their constitutional rights to choose leaders who demonstrate integrity, competence and commitment to good governance.
The Federal Government had not issued any response to Frank’s allegations at the time of filing this report.
