The President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has sent a message of condolence to the people and government of Kano State over the death of Hajiya Ladi Bako, widow of the first governor of the old Kano State (now Kano and Jigawa states), Police Commissioner Audu Bako.

In a statement released by his office on Thursday, the President-elect described the death of the Bako matriarch, who died at 93, as end of a glorious era.

Her husband was military governor of Kano State from May 1967 to July 1975.

“Late Hajiya Ladi Bako’s supportive role helped her husband in no small measure in the giant strides his administration recorded in the old Kano State.

“She was exemplary in spousal support for leaders. Her dignified role shaped the policy of government in key areas of education, health and environment, making the state a pacesetter in many respects.

“The late Hajiya Ladi inspired a lot of women who followed her steps in similar role as first ladies beyond Kano State. She left a motivation that inspired generations of young women and encouraged girl-child education.

“I join family and friends in mourning her loss and pray for Almighty Allah to have mercy on her wonderful soul. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the government and people of the old Kano State (now Kano and Jigawa) as well as those of Kaduna State,” Tinubu stated.
