Jalingo, Taraba State – Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, has pledged his commitment to join stakeholders in making Taraba State greener through a tree-planting exercise at the Brigade Headquarters.
“We are proud to join hands with the Taraba State Government in this noble cause. Our collaboration on the GREENING TARABA INITIATIVE underscores our commitment to not only protecting the nation but also safeguarding our environment for future generations,” General Uwa said during the flag-off ceremony.
The event marked the beginning of a partnership between the Nigerian Army and the Taraba State Government to combat climate change and promote environmental responsibility. General Uwa emphasized the importance of addressing environmental challenges, citing the devastating effects of global warming and extreme climate changes.
Governor Agbu Kefas, represented by Honorable Tafarki Agbadu, appreciated the Nigerian Army’s proactive role in environmental conservation. “The GREENING TARABA INITIATIVE will significantly contribute to the ecological health of our state, and we are grateful for the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army’s dedication and support.”
The Honorable Commissioner of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Hajiya Aishat Abdula’zeez Barde, noted that the initiative represents a significant step towards achieving sustainable development goals and mitigating the effects of climate change in the state.
The ceremony included the symbolic planting of 500 assorted trees by top government officials, non-governmental organizations, and military personnel.
