TRAMRA Officer Dies After Alleged Attack by Commercial Driver in Calabar ‎

‎A traffic officer attached to the Traffic Management and Regulatory Agency (TRAMRA) has reportedly lost his life following an alleged attack by a commercial minibus driver during an enforcement exercise in Calabar South.

‎

‎The incident, according to a statement released by the agency and signed by its Public Relations Officer, Gabriel Ojie, happened around 10:00 a.m. on May 25, 2026, while officials were conducting routine traffic control operations.

‎TRAMRA explained that the deceased officer, who was said to be on official duty and unarmed at the time, was monitoring traffic compliance when he was allegedly assaulted by a commercial driver.

‎

‎The agency alleged that the driver stabbed the officer in the chest with a screwdriver during the confrontation. The victim was rushed for medical attention but was later confirmed dead.

‎

‎Describing the incident as shocking and unwarranted, TRAMRA condemned the killing, stating that the attack was not only against its personnel but also against efforts to maintain safety and order on public roads.

‎

‎The agency disclosed that the case has been reported to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for investigation, while calling for the immediate apprehension and prosecution of the suspect involved.

‎

‎TRAMRA further urged transport operators and commercial drivers to shun violence and cooperate with traffic officials in the discharge of their responsibilities.

‎

‎The agency maintained that it would not be deterred by the incident and reaffirmed its resolve to continue enforcing traffic regulations across the state. It also appealed to members of the public to assist security agencies with relevant information that could aid ongoing investigations.
