Troops of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have ambushed suspected terrorists in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing three of the assailants and recovering arms and other items.
The operation, according to the Army, was carried out by troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) as part of ongoing offensives against terrorists and criminal elements in the state.
A statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade, Captain Abayomi Adisa, said the troops had taken strategic blocking positions along the Turare–Kitibawa–Kuka Mai Damusa road following intelligence on the movement of fleeing terrorists from the Matazu general area.
He explained that at about 9:40 p.m. on May 9, the troops successfully ambushed the armed men while they were attempting to escape ongoing military operations.
According to the statement, three terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing three rounds of ammunition, one motorcycle, three cutlasses, assorted charms and a cash sum of N3,500.
The Army said troops have continued to sustain offensive operations against criminal elements with a view to restoring peace and security across Katsina State and neighbouring communities.
It also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that could aid ongoing operations against terrorists and bandits in the state.
