A truck carrying a tipper rammed a parked car with two persons sleeping inside after negotiating the U-turn and the the bad road shoulder opposite the police station along the Abuja-Keffi Highway in New Nyanya, Karu LGA of Nasarawa State in the wee hours of Monday.
When AljazirahNigeria visited the scene in the morning, the smashed car was left where the truck pushed it to by the roadside while the trailer fell on its side a few metres away, but the owners were not on ground except the passers-by that gathered, expressing shock at the incident.
A resident eyewitness who narrated what transpired blamed the chopped-off shoulder of the road by the U-turn for the accident.
He said, “Immediately after negotiating the bend, as the truck was trying to align properly to continue its journey in the direction of Keffi, its wheels fell into the pothole created by failure of the shoulder and it lost control and rammed the car from the left rear side.
“It is all the fault of the bad road we have everywhere in this country. As you can see, the road side of this road has failed almost all its stretch, down to Keffi. Vehicles that ought to park properly by the side have to park on the road because the side had failed.”
It was gathered that the stationed car ran out of fuel, and a man and a woman who were resting in it at the time of the accident which happened around 2am, decided to park by the roadside, pending when filling stations would resume sail of fuel later in the morning.
