The US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, said on Thursday that the execution by firing squad of convicted Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan—who opened fire on American soldiers in 2009, killing 13 and injuring 32—will be public.
Mr Hegseth told Real America’s Voice that Mr Hasan would be executed by firing squad to send a message that there are consequences for terrorist acts.
“We’re gonna make sure that people are able to watch it, that it’s public,” Mr Hegseth said when asked about Mr Hasan’s death by firing squad.
“People need to understand that there are serious consequences for these types of things.”
Earlier this week, a memo dated October 6 from the office of the US Secretary of the Army, signed by Adam Telle, said Mr Hasan would be executed on December 3 by 1:00 p.m. CT.
Mr Hasan’s execution will mark the first death by firing squad for the US military since World War II, about 60 years ago.
