US President Donald Trump has given a cautious update on diplomatic efforts with Iran, describing the ongoing discussions as “going OK.”
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump noted that while there has been movement, he prefers not to speak too soon. “Nothing matters until you get it done,” he said, reflecting a wait-and-see approach to the sensitive negotiations.
This statement follows a high-level meeting between US presidential envoy Steven Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Oman. Witkoff was joined by US Ambassador to Oman Ana Escrogima for the talks, which marked a significant moment in efforts to ease tensions between the two nations.
According to a statement from the White House, the conversation in Oman was described as “very positive and constructive.” Witkoff reportedly conveyed a clear message from President Trump: the United States is open to resolving longstanding issues with Iran through peaceful dialogue and diplomatic channels.
The White House acknowledged the complexity of the issues at hand but called Saturday’s meeting a meaningful step forward. The direct communication, it said, showed both sides are at least willing to engage in conversation with the aim of finding common ground.
Both delegations have agreed to hold another round of talks next Saturday, suggesting that the door remains open for continued diplomacy. While it’s still too early to predict the outcome, the commitment to ongoing discussion may indicate a shift away from past confrontations.
This latest development adds to a growing list of attempts by Washington to navigate its strained relationship with Tehran through diplomatic routes rather than pressure alone. Whether this results in a lasting agreement remains to be seen, but the renewed contact is a sign that both countries are, for now, choosing conversation over conflict.
