Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has dismissed reports claiming he made critical remarks about President Bola Tinubu, insisting that his comments were misinterpreted and taken out of context.
In a statement released on Sunday in Bauchi through his media aide, Abdulkadir Alkassim, Tuggar clarified that he never criticised President Bola Tinubu or questioned his leadership.
According to the statement, the former minister remains fully aligned with the administration and continues to support the policies of the current government.
Alkassim explained that Tuggar’s interview, delivered in Hausa, was misrepresented in some reports, stressing that his comments were instead focused on internal matters within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State.
He said Tuggar had emphasised the need for openness and fairness in the party’s candidate selection process, urging that aspirants be allowed to compete freely in transparent primaries.
The aide further noted that Tuggar also raised concerns about alleged attempts to influence the APC governorship process in the state, maintaining that all interested candidates should be given equal opportunity.
He added that the former minister’s position aligns with President Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees seeking elective office to resign within the stipulated timeframe.
The statement concluded that Tuggar remains committed to party unity in Bauchi and to the broader goals of the APC-led administration under President Tinubu.
Tuggar has not personally issued a separate public response beyond the clarification released by his media office.
