Three of FIFA’s six continental confederations — UEFA, AFC and CONCACAF — have issued a joint statement saying they have “lost trust” in FIFA and President Gianni Infantino following the handling of the now-withdrawn FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal.
The confederations accused FIFA leadership of failing to acknowledge that the FFE proposal was wrong, describing it as “a fundamental breach of trust and failure in judgement.”
“UEFA, AFC and CONCACAF have said they have lost trust in FIFA and President Gianni Infantino for failing to acknowledge that the now-withdrawn FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal was wrong — a fundamental breach of trust and failure in judgement,” the joint statement read.
Details of the FFE proposal were not provided in the statement, but the confederations noted that further information has been shared in the comments section of their release.
The withdrawal of the proposal followed widespread criticism from member associations and stakeholders across the three confederations, who argued the plan undermined financial transparency and the autonomy of regional football bodies.
The public rift marks one of the most serious confrontations between FIFA and its confederations during Infantino’s tenure, raising questions about governance and consultation within world football’s governing body.
FIFA has not yet responded to the joint statement.
