The United Kingdom Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued a travel advisory to its citizens in Nigeria ahead of the August 15 off-cycle governorship election in Osun State.
The warning was contained in an updated travel notice published by the FCDO on Thursday.
The FCDO advised its citizens to follow its ‘warnings and insurance’ guidelines before visiting the state.
“Your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against advice from the Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO),” it said.
It noted that “no travel can be guaranteed safe” to the state, citing a heavy security presence in Osogbo and other surrounding areas.
“On Saturday 15 August, governorship elections will take place in Osun State. A heavier security presence is expected in Osogbo and surrounding Osun State from Friday 14 August,” the advisory stated.
“Travel restrictions may also be in place. Follow local advice and carry your passport or other ID to show if required,” it added.
The FCDO urged UK citizens to properly research their destinations and obtain appropriate travel insurance that covers their itinerary, planned activities, and expenses in case of an emergency before embarking on any trip.
