Ukraine has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States, marking a potential turning point in the war.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that Ukraine is ready to halt hostilities and begin negotiations with Russia to achieve a “sustainable and enduring” resolution to the conflict.
The offer includes a complete ceasefire across the frontline—not just in the air and maritime zones, as Ukraine initially proposed. The US will also restore intelligence sharing and security assistance to Ukraine immediately as part of the deal.
Rubio stated that “the ball is now in Russia’s court.” He emphasized that President Donald Trump is committed to stopping the bloodshed, stressing:
“People died yesterday, they will die today, and unless there’s a ceasefire, they will die tomorrow. We want this to end.”
Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz will present the ceasefire proposal to Russia in the coming days.
The US is urging Russia to accept the ceasefire and move toward formal peace talks. A G7 meeting will also discuss the situation further.
While Ukraine’s acceptance of the ceasefire is a significant development, the key question remains whether Russia will agree to halt fighting and engage in negotiations.
