The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has appointed Professor Eyo Offiong Mensah as the new Dean of Students’ Affairs, in a move aimed at strengthening the administration of student-related matters in the institution.
Professor Mensah, who currently serves as Director of the Bassey Andah Institute for African and Asian Studies, will work alongside Dr Obal Usang as Deputy Dean. Dr Usang is a former Head of the Department of Accounting.
The appointments take effect from January 1, 2026, and will run for a two-year tenure ending on December 31, 2028.
The development was announced in an official statement issued by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Offiong Efanga Offiong, who charged the newly appointed officers to deploy their wealth of academic and administrative experience in the effective management of the Students’ Affairs Division.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the Students’ Affairs Division plays a vital role in fostering productivity, discipline and stability within the university community, stressing that efficient administration of the unit is essential for sustaining a conducive academic environment.
The statement added that Professor Mensah and his deputy are expected to promote a supportive academic and social atmosphere that enhances students’ learning, welfare and overall well-being.
