Accra– The United States has extradited former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s Microfinance and Small Loans Centre, MASLOC, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, to face charges in Ghana after her conviction in the US on multiple corruption counts.
US authorities confirmed “The United States has extradited former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, to Ghana.” The move follows her conviction “on more than 70 corruption-related charges, including the embezzlement of more than $6 million in Ghanaian taxpayer funds.”
The US Embassy in Ghana described the extradition as “a demonstration of the strong law enforcement partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment to accountability.”
Officials noted this marks “the first extradition from the United States to Ghana since 2009,” underscoring renewed cooperation between Washington and Accra on anti-corruption enforcement.
Tamakloe-Attionu led MASLOC between 2013 and 2017. Ghanaian prosecutors had long sought her return over allegations that funds meant for small business loans were diverted. Her handover to Ghanaian authorities is expected to pave the way for further proceedings in local courts.
The extradition comes amid growing pressure on Ghana to strengthen accountability in public institutions and recover misappropriated state funds.
