A vintage Spitfire plane crashed onto a field in Lincolnshire, England, on the eve of VE Day celebrations. The pilot was forced to make an emergency landing after experiencing technical issues.
“I am just relieved that no one was hurt,” said the pilot, who was the sole occupant of the plane. The incident is currently under investigation.
VE Day, which marks the end of World War II in Europe, is being celebrated on May 8 to commemorate the Allied victory. The crash occurred ahead of the planned celebrations.
The vintage plane was part of a collection of historic aircraft taking part in events to mark the anniversary. Authorities have praised the pilot’s skill in minimizing potential damage during the emergency landing.
