A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara has filed a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), seeking an order compelling the electoral body to recognise and publish its nominated National Working Committee (NWC).
The suit, instituted at the Federal High Court in Abuja, is aimed at forcing INEC to update its official records to reflect what the plaintiffs described as the legitimate leadership structure of the party.
In the originating summons marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1159/2026, the plaintiffs are asking the court to direct INEC to immediately publish the names of members of the Tanimu Turaki-led NWC as submitted to it through official correspondence dated May 4, 2026.
The plaintiffs argued that INEC’s refusal or delay in updating its records has contributed to ongoing uncertainty over the party’s leadership status and internal administration.
Among those listed as plaintiffs in the case are Wabara, PDP Board of Trustees Secretary and former Niger State Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu, former Minister of Information Prof. Jerry Gana, PDP chieftain Olabode George, as well as other senior party figures.
The suit lists INEC as the sole defendant, with the plaintiffs seeking judicial intervention to affirm what they insist is the duly constituted leadership structure of the party.
The legal action adds another layer to the ongoing leadership dispute within the PDP, which has continued to generate internal disagreements and court battles over control of party structures at the national level.
