The Executive Chairwoman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hulayat Omidiran, has called on Nigeria’s Super Falcons to remain determined in their quest to win a record 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.
In a goodwill message to the African champions, Omidiran praised the team for consistently representing Nigeria with distinction across Africa and on the global stage. She urged the players to stay united, disciplined and committed as they continue their campaign.
She expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back and make the country proud, saying Nigerians were firmly behind them.
”We believe in your ability to make Nigeria proud once again. Stay united, remain focused and continue to display the fighting spirit that has made the Super Falcons the pride of Africa,” she said.
Omidiran, who previously served on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Executive Board and was a member of FIFA’s Women’s Football Committee, assured the players of the nation’s unwavering support as they chase another continental triumph.
”As you continue your pursuit of another WAFCON title, I extend my heartfelt support and best wishes to our gallant Super Falcons. The entire country is behind you as you aim for a record-extending 11th crown,” she added.
She noted that the team’s resilience, excellence and patriotism had continued to inspire millions of Nigerians, particularly young girls aspiring to build careers in football and other sports.
The FCC chairwoman also expressed optimism that the Falcons would reinforce their status as Africa’s most successful women’s national team by lifting the trophy once again.
Nigeria’s title defence suffered an early setback after a 3-2 defeat to debutants Malawi in their opening Group B match. The Super Falcons are scheduled to face Zambia and Egypt in their remaining group fixtures as they seek a place in the knockout stage.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Super Falcons are aiming to reclaim the continental title despite their disappointing start to the tournament.
