Former Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has officially switched his international allegiance to the Democratic Republic of Congo, earning his first call-up to the senior national team, the Leopards.
DR Congo manager Sébastien Desabre included Wan-Bissaka in his 27-man squad for upcoming friendlies against Mali and Madagascar, scheduled for June 5 and June 8, 2025, at the Stade de la Source in Orléans, France.
Wan-Bissaka joins a squad featuring several European-based players, including defenders Arthur Masuaku (BeÅŸiktaÅŸ), Axel Tuanzebe (Ipswich Town), Chancel Mbemba (Olympique de Marseille), and Joris Kayembe (Genk).
The 26-year-old right-back has previously played for Crystal Palace and Manchester United, earning recognition as Crystal Palace’s 2018-2019 Player of the Year.
This move marks a significant step in Wan-Bissaka’s international career, as he looks to make an impact for the Leopards. Having previously represented England at youth level, Wan-Bissaka’s call-up adds to DR Congo’s strong defensive lineup.
Wan-Bissaka has played one game for DR Congo’s U20 team, paving the way for his senior debut. The upcoming friendlies will provide an opportunity for Wan-Bissaka to showcase his skills and integrate with the team.
